There is a future for consumer electronics in retail," insists GameStop’s chief executive, Paul Raines. "But in order to survive, our internal rate of change has to be greater than the external rate of change.

“In general, the startups which are most successful are vastly different today than the initial idea. I think that this is actually the norm rather than the exception. Here are three examples from a great article by Vinicius Vacanti:

- Instagram started as an HTML5 supported location-based service
- Groupon started as a way to allow groups of people to band together to accomplish a goal called ThePoint

Learn the difference between a UX Designer and a Visual Designer. They are not the same. And while there is (and should be) a lot of overlap in skills—it’s good to know what the designer you’re hiring thinks is priority.

I’ve said as much in conversations: ‘So, to be clear, you’re just looking for a shiny coat of paint right now, and you’re not interested in fixing the problems that are going to stop people in their tracks…?!’

There is a quote attributed to the futurist Alvin Toffler that captures this new reality: In the future ‘illiteracy will not be defined by those who cannot read and write, but by those who cannot learn and relearn.’ Any form of standing still is deadly.
